50 -Year Celebration

Whether you know it as, Mr. Scott's Dojo, The College of the Martial Arts, or the International Karate Association & College of the Martial Arts, August 25, 2022 will mark 50 years that Hanshi Scott has been teaching out of his Dojo in Fairbanks, Alaska.

To celebrate, a gathering will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2022 so please mark your calendar and join us to recognize not just Mr. Scott's Dojo, but all of Hanshi's black belts as well. We are a unique association that have always worked hard for rank and that is something to be proud of.

Please see below for additional information.

  • Bug spray

  • Folding chairs

  • Small folding table if you prefer one to eat off of.

  • Canopy if you have one that doesn't have guy ropes that could be tripped on.

    • Badminton

    • Other

Please label anything you bring with your name to include dishes.

Event Location

As seen above, we will be meeting at the Ester Community Park just outside of Fairbanks.

We will have the stage and pavilions just in case it rains and if local attendees have one, maybe a few canopies as well.

There is a playground for the kids and a huge field for games such as cornhole toss, kicking a soccer ball around, or other games attendees would like to bring.

This will be a casual event. It is meant to reunite, celebrate, and recognize all the effort it took to become a 50-year institution. Come have some fun!

Potluck

IKA Alaska will provide the main entree and dessert. A grain-free dessert will be available as well.

We are asking local attendees to bring a side dish, chips, or drinks (to include any alcoholic beverages).

Individuals from out-of-town are excluded from bringing any sort of dish. We are just grateful for your presence.

Please contact ika@ikaalaska.com to let us know what you will be bringing so we know if we have enough food on hand.

We are expecting at least 100 guests so keep that in mind when you are planning a side dish.

Please, please RSVP with the number in your party and what you are bringing.

Room Sharing: If you would like to share a two bed room and split the cost, please email ika@ikaalaska.com

If a hotel is out of the question (perfectly understandable considering today's high prices), please contact ika@ikaalaska.com to ask about anyone local having a spare room. We recognize the cost of flying to Fairbanks, AK is considerable at this time and we don't want you to not attend because of mounted costs.

Car Rental: Like everything else, car rental prices are up. Here are a few sites that offer better pricing:

You can also share a vehicle and split the cost.

Flights: Although fees are up, there are still some good prices to be found to include on Alaska Airlines. Due to rising costs, it would be best to make reservations now rather than wait (be sure to check out available deals)
