Your Safety Is Our Priority

The International Karate Association & College of the Martial Arts first opened its doors to the greater Fairbanks area in 1972 as Scott's Dojo and has continued to grow since that time.

As in the beginning, classes are still taught by 8th Dan Hanshi Charles Scott. Hanshi Scott has over 50 years of continuous training and teaching in the martial arts and, holds numerous high ranking belts in a variety of martial art styles which allows him to teach multiple disciplines at his school.

The College of Martial Arts is dedicated to providing martial arts instruction, specifically authentic Japanese Karate, Aikido, Kung Fu, Iaido Jujitsu and more. Take a look at our Classes page for more information. There are also other classes offered, but not on a continuous bases such as Hojutsu otherwise known as "the art of gunnery".

Unlike most schools, or dojo's, The College of the Martial Arts gives students the opportunity to train in more than one discipline. Many of the styles compliment each other such as karate and aikido or jujitsu. Learning both a hard and soft style can be useful for many occupations such as law enforcement, corrections, and more. It is also great for body awareness, movement, and self-defense.

Hanshi Scott’s talent and dedication to ALL martial arts earned him recognition and entrance in to the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2007.

Why Join?

People join karate and marital arts for different reasons. Adults may wish to learn better coordination or physical and mental conditioning. Parents may have a desire for their child to learn, discipline or respect.  These are only a few of the qualities that will be developed should you chose to practice. Some people are inwardly shy, being forced to lead a section of class to a small group of peers slowly breaks down that wall. Soon shy quiet people find a voice and can become leaders.  Whatever your reasoning is, dedication and consistent practice will improve your mental abilities as well as your physical fitness.
